Classmate SIte Comparisons

Here I am, on my final night as a grad school student. It has been a long and exhausting road. I am so incredibly excited for my final assignment. Plus, I have my first job interview tomorrow!

I was looking through some classmates websites. It is so difficult to compare all of the different styles and work on display. I think that some are incredibly professional and I hope that I can eventually get my work to their level. I have come a long way in this course, but I still have more work to do.

One of my favorite sites was the one that Rob created.
The honest to god's truth...it just makes me laugh. I know that isn't a criteria for excellence but I really appreciated it. I think it is a great way to get people introduced to what you have to say.

Another site that I really appreciated was the one that Dave created.
His site looks incredibly professional. His site is something that I would give out to future employers. He is incredibly detailed and everything he puts on looks very modern. There is a simplicity to his site that highlights all of the detailed work that has gone into it. I also really like that it is all white...it looks incredibly clean and streamlined.

I also really liked the site that Allissa created.
One of the reasons that I like her site so much is that she gives incredibly detailed descriptions of her work. One of the other reasons that I like her site is that she is one of my good friends and we did a lot of work together for this class. She helped me out a lot! I want to say that we helped out each other. But, at the end of the day, she gives incredibly detailed descriptions of the work she did. And her details are written in a clear way for any student to understand.

Well, on that note...I am officially done with graduate school. I am excited. Freaked out. And now I am headed to my kitchen for a drink.

Cheers!!!

NYU Blackboard

So, there is a new NYU blackboard...

I love Blackboard for its ease of use and its capabilities of easy access to school information. I also love how easy it is to buy tickets to events. And all events that are offered with NYU discounts. It is easy to maneuver and I can always find what I am looking for. Actually, before my technology class, I had no idea that Blackboard offered so many options.

The one complaint that I have is that when Blackboard switched over to gmail, it caused great havoc with my previous gmail account. In fact, I still haven't been able to get my NYU account hooked up to my phone since. If I am being honest, I don't really know what happened. I did speak to a few classmates and we tried to reprogram my phone but it seemed to case more harm than good.

All in all, it is a great thing. It would be incredible to have a network site like this in the NYC Department of Education...who knows?

Browser Comparisons

I have been doing a little research on browsers. I will be honest and say that I cannot tell the difference when I am searching. I don't think that I am computer savvy enough to make any concrete comparisons. I have used several different browsers; Google, Safari, Firefox, Explorer. Personally, I like Safari but mostly because it has come installed on my Mac and for that reason it is the most accessible.

As I continue to do my research I have found some interesting information. Apparently Safari is a memory hog. I know that this can cause a computer to slow down. I have yet to see any implication of this on my computer. The best security is under Firefox. I don't really know why but I do know that it is important to keep a tight security on your browser. Especially in this day and age, I do all of my bill paying and sales online. The downside of Firefox is that because it has such drastic security measures, it causes you to sign in every time on all of your frequented websites.

The one thing that is nice about Firefox is that when searching a website, it is very easy to find words that you are looking for.

What do you think?

Crazy Week

What a week it has been! I am starting to realize that the semester is coming to a close and I have a million things that I need to accomplish before I graduate. Yes, I am graduating at the end of the semester and I am totally freaked out by all of it.

When will I find the time to finish all of this homework? What am I going to do after a graduate?!? When am I going to finish my final lesson plans?

The one set of news that I can share is that I am one step closer to getting my certification! I took two of the three tests this past weekend. I think I did ok although I don't know for sure. I never do well in those situations. I can always narrow it down to 2 answers and then my brain gets all fuzzy and I get all freaked out. All I can say is that I will have a better answer for you in about three to four weeks...Fingers crossed!!!

Group Project

Our group met this week and we started working on our final project for class. I think things went very well. We quickly decided to create a website/blog that could be used for students to have up to date information regarding rehearsals. This is something that I have done for my own students but it will be exciting to see how my classmates can teach me how to create a really exciting, interactive site. I don't want to say to much more because it is just in the beginning stages. We shall see...

Additions To My Blog

Check out all of the new things I have added to my blog. You can read the blogs of teammates and I added a picture from an afternoon in Socrates Sculpture Park. Cheers!

Feeling Sick

It has been a while since I blogged because I have been awfully sick. I blame it on the time I had to spend in a medical clinic getting a flu shot. I goes it was my own fault since I didn't have to get a flu shot but it seems like a necessity when you teach in the schools. I am feeling much better now but still fighting off this darn cold. The coughing is incessant and doesn't seem to go away. I met with my tech project group this evening and I will fill you in on all the details tomorrow. For now, I am going to bed. Wednesday is my longest day of the week...17 hour day, here we come...

Professional Information

In the time since I last blogged, I thought about the things I want people to know about me! Since I am a teacher and in the thick of it, I wanted to share some personal information about me and what I like to do in my classroom...

It is my mission as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites open communication through active listening while creating a positive working environment and developing an educational ensemble in the classroom. Each student is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, collaborative and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, and socially. I plan on structuring my education philosophy on the basis of the teacher as a guide, in and out of role, allowing the student's natural curiosity and creativity to direct their learning, and promote respect and diversity for all things and all people. I plan on structuring activities that allow for the creative spirit of play to guide our learning, working toward the final presentation of a theatre piece. My theater classroom allows for the opportunity to build an ensemble of respect, inside and outside of the daily class schedule.

Let me know what you think...

Creating my first blog...

This is my first website and my first blog. Honestly, I never really understood why someone would write a blog but perhaps I am just being cynical. Personally, I keep a journal but it isn't something that I want to publish for the world to see. Never the less, this class has been teaching me so much wonderful information that I had to jump on board.

So...this is my blog. Blog it out. Blog it on. Blogger. Blog is a very odd word to continually say in your head.

This blog was created by Google. I imagine that there are other blog applications out there. I have heard of Bloggster. That word makes me laugh. Bloggster.
